At Owl Orthodontics there is nothing more important to us then creating beautiful and healthy smiles for each of our patients. We proudly build these smiles for our patients at multiple locations including Amherst, Clarence, Grand Island, Buffalo, Williamsville and Lancaster-Depew. Dr. Wright and his team strive to teach our patients the importance of protecting the smile we have work so hard with them to achieve. It is important to protect your smile through a great oral hygiene regiment as well as protecting it through everyday activities.

What Is National Facial Protection Month?

National Facial Protection Month is held during the month of April where dental and orthodontic professionals spread the word about protecting your face, mouth and head. Spring is often the time when we find that patients suffer the most injuries resulting from sports-related accidents. Although we are highly capable of handling emergency situations, we would rather have our patients be prepared when it comes to protecting their smile. Dr. Wright joins the following associations in recognizing this month:

    • Academy For Sports Dentistry
    • American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
    • American Dental Association
    • American Association of Oral and Maxilofacial Surgeons
    • American Association of Orthodontist

How You Protect Your Mouth This Spring

One of the best ways to protect your mouth during orthodontic treatment is to wear a customized mouth guard while participating in any sports or athletic activities. Whether you are wearing traditional metal braces or Invisalign, you want to make sure to protect the progress you have made!

Remember to also avoid sticky, hard or sugary foods to protect your braces and your teeth. If you have any questions about what foods you should avoid we encourage you to check out our foods to avoid page.
